Montréal based indie pop duo Down With Space are vocalist/guitarist Rob Helsten and drummer Steve Dumas – the classic Montréal meeting of an English speaker (Helsten) and a French speaker (Dumas) who have found an understanding through music when language can sometimes elude communication.
Kicking off a productive 2022 for the pair, “We Were Strangers” is a song that’s made to move your feet –the bassline is there to carry you forward. In the spirit of things that almost happened but were never meant to be, there is a feeling of nostalgia for something that almost was but just didn’t work out.
The video and artwork for this track are the work of frontman Helsten. Inspired by the freedom of the outdoors and big skies but set inside the city, the visuals capture the beauty of freshly fallen snow in the dead of winter from the perspective of an urban environment.
