Fresh New Music: St. Vincent – “Strange Mercy”

Annie Erin Clark, or St. Vincent as she is known to the masses makes quirky-orchestral pop music. The Oklahoma-born, Dallas, Texas raised musician was part of the Polyphonic Spree and has had numerous musical ventures with Sufjan Stevens and Bon Iver. Her third album is called Strange Mercy and comes out September 13th on 4AD. Her first two albums received critical acclaim and her new album is on Billboard’s recently released “Most Anticipated Albums of the Fall.” Given her new song “Surgeon”, I can say we will not be disappointed. Imagine a church chorus fading into some choppy, loopy string section, climaxing with electronic layering, until a funky synth lead brings the escalating sounds tumbling to destruction. Enjoy:)
