Welcome to the ‘Weekly Grind’ where GroundSounds Editor-in-Chief Jake Craney recaps the week in music, featuring the latest album releases, tracks, and recommendations. Plus, he keeps you up to date on GroundSounds’ exclusive music news and interviews.
Fitz! Fitz Fitz Fitz. This week Fitz and The Tantrums put their new album More Than Just A Dream up for streaming. The album basically overtook anything else I was listening to this week. It’s such a great album. The opener (Out Of My League) and closer (Merry Go Round) are some of the bands best work, and everything in between showcases why this band is one of the best in the business. “Spark” is a surefire hit, “Walking” is undeniably catchy and “Last Raindrop” is perhaps my favorite song released so far this year. I can’t say enough about how good this album is. Listen to it right here on GroundSounds and be sure to pick it up next Tuesday.

Andrew McMahon came roaring back onto the scene this week with the release of his new EP The Pop Underground. Displaying what people loved most about Everything In Transit era Jack’s Mannequin, this EP finds McMahon venturing into the electronic/synth territory and doing so successfully. All four tracks are extremely strong, catchy pop songs and should get listeners justifiably excited for his next release.

I also just got around to listening to Youngblood Hawke’s full-length Wake Up, which came out last week. I’m very impressed with Wake Up and how well the songs we haven’t heard stack up and compliment their EP hits. “Dannyboy,” “Say Say,” and “Live & Die” are all terrific new tracks.

Last but not least: Airborne Toxic Event. Such Hot Blood came out this week and fans have been raving online, justifiably so. They are some of the best songwriters around and they show it off once again. Such Hot Blood deserves any positive accolade it receives.
