Saskatoon’s Everybody’s Side Project Releases Vulnerable Pop Punk EP feat. Turbulent Track “I Hate Where We Started”

Daryl Uhrin, originally from Windsor, Ontario, is making a remarkable comeback to the music scene with his latest work, Everybody‘s Side Project. His musical journey began in the early 2000s, where he was the lead vocalist and keyboardist for Amid Morning Sky, and later became the lead singer, synth, and keyboard player for We Were Thane. His experiences in Windsor solidified his passion for music and performance. However, he took a 15-year hiatus from the music world to focus on his career in manufacturing.

Now residing in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Daryl is releasing a three-song EP entitled Searching For a Ray of Hope which embodies the essence of Everybody‘s Side Project.

“I Hate Where We Started,” taken from the EP, reflects on the tumultuous beginning to a relationship of Daryl‘s with a woman who pursued him without revealing that she had a boyfriend. The intense and driving pop punk tune blends spoken word and sung sections, featuring vulnerable lyrics which capture the messiness of true emotions, like “the heart on your sleeve is dripping all over.”

Searching For a Ray of Hope draws inspiration from a period of personal reflection and life changes. It explores themes of vulnerability, fragility and recovery, drawing from both Daryl‘s personal experience and the experiences of others navigating through challenging times. During the EP’s writing and recording process, he focused on expressing raw emotion and sometimes allowed the songs to remain unpolished. These moments, filled with apparent imperfections, are intentional, showcasing that there is a real person with genuine feelings behind the tracks.

What did you enjoy most about the recording process of this new release?
The most enjoyable part of the recording process for Everybody’s Side Project has been embracing the imperfections and unpolished nature of the music. This project is a labor of love, reflecting my journey and experiences. The freedom to create without worrying about perfection has been incredibly liberating, allowing me to pour my heart and soul into every track.

Share a nugget of advice that has resonated with you most over the years.
One piece of advice that has stuck with me over the years is: “Do it scared, because the second time you won’t be as scared, and the third time you won’t be scared anymore.” This mantra has been my guiding light through countless shows, recording sessions, and life challenges. It reminds me that courage and persistence are key to overcoming fear and achieving growth.

Who would be your dream artist/band to co-headline a tour with?
My dream bands to co-headline a tour with would obviously be Blink-182 or Neck Deep. These bands have had a significant influence on my musical style and have been a constant source of inspiration throughout my career. Also, without Blink 182 my humor would not be acceptable or exist lol.
 
What sets your music apart from others in your genre?
What sets my music apart is its raw honesty and therapeutic nature. My songs are a reflection of my personal experiences, struggles, and triumphs. I believe this genuineness resonates with listeners who are looking for something real and relatable. Additionally, the blend of pop-punk elements adds a unique flavor to the sound.
 
Tell us what your favorite song is at the moment and why.
My favorite song from Everybody’s Side Project is “Meme This.” It offers a glimpse into my generation and looks ahead to the next. I was always on my computer, sharing funny memes, and now I see people using them to recreate themselves. I sympathize with them because they may be going through tough life lessons and growing as a person. What I’m trying to convey to the kids of today is to go outside, grab two skateboards, put them under a couch, and hurl yourself down that hill. They should probably wear safety gear even though I didn’t, lol.
