FRESH NEW MIXTAPES

LAF- Loud As F*** {Mixtape Review}

Jon Berrien

A few weeks ago LAF spoke with GroundSounds about his newest release Loud As F***! Here is the GroundSounds track by track review of the mixtape.

1. Intro

It feels loud, it is loud, and it gets the point across. LAF is getting ready to take us on some kind of journey.

2. Loud As F***

This track is all about being loud, wildn’ out, and expressing all of your emotions. “I think the world mad, we always turning up,” LAF raps as he details his concerns with the ills of the world. Even though the beat feels real trill, LAF compliments that feeling with truthful revelations about fatherhood, education, and responsibility.

3. Live It Up

Everybody needs that one song to get the weekend started, and LAF has one for you with “Live It Up.” The track has that 5pm, Friday after work, stuck in traffic, ready for happy hour sound. It’s all about enjoying yourself cause you only have “One life. Live it up.”

4. Need Somebody

LAF smoothes things out a bit with this track, which samples the Kings of Leon hit, “Use Somebody.” Introspective and contemplative, LAF considers what defines success and how to achieve it. “Should I use this degree, or should I chase these dreams?” he wonders. LAF brings an interesting perspective as a college graduate attempting to balance the expectations of society and his own dreams and desires.

5. Pillz

Another party joint to help ease the pains of everyday life.  The beat has a little bit of that bay area feel to it, and LAF even admits, “Tonight I’m tryin’ to function.” LAF certainly has a few goodies to help him relax and get his function on, all of which he willingly lists in the hook.

6. Love Song

Stripped down and seductive, this track allows LAF to slow down and talk to the females a little bit. Not exactly your traditional R&B love song or slow jam, it’s as close as LAF is going to come to telling some PYT that he is in love with her.  He does promises to “Touch you like I love you.”

7. Twerk

Playing this song at a party may result in applause….lots of clapping hahaha. Ratchet. Stripper music.  I want to be in this music video. ‘Nuff said.

8. Walk On By

LAF comes with a ton of energy on this track. A unique beat that samples the Dionne Warwick tune of the same name, LAF asks the ladies “And would you still be my next, if you knew what happened to my ex?” His rap hustle and desire for success is his focus, LAF has to let the ladies know what the deal really is on this song.

9. Hippies Over Stoners

The sample that LAF flows and floats on is certainly appropriate for this song. LAF admits he is more a hippie than a stoner because, “Stoners can’t think, hippies vie for world peace.” LAF seeks enlightenment and peace when he uses certain substances, unlike others who are simply lazy, unmotivated, cool-chasers.

10. Loud

Something laid back with nice background vocals from Surreal. Working hard on his music, LAF apologizes for not paying enough attention to the special young lady in his life. Just remember Live, Love LAF….

11.Half On a Dream

Another passionate and honest track. Spatial production and subtle but powerful lyrics about life, love, and parenthood gently flow from LAF. Critical of deadbeat fathers, LAF wants to go half on a dream with the mother of his child. Surreal gets to serenade us into that dream.
