Chicago based Survival Float is the pop/rock solo project of songwriter and producer Jess Hal. Drawing inspiration from his rural midwest upbringing, he just put the final touches on his debut self-titled album Survival Float and now it is premiering exclusively on GroundSounds.

While creating rich soundscapes for listeners young and old, the album reflects on Hal’s religious upbringing and struggles with faith.

He had this to say about his latest LP:

“The lyrical inspiration for ‘Survival Float’ is sometimes autobiographical or semi.  It’s sometimes a hypothetical exploration. Either way, its primary theme is religious faith. Why we catch it. Why we lose it. How we live with or without it. I exorcise some ugly feelings. But, I tried to allow  myself a degree of sentimentality and gratefulness.”
