Emerging from the effervescent cultural and musical neighborhood of Oakland, CA, 4-piece group Bells Atlas are back with an absolutely wondrous EP aptly titled Hyperlust. It is most certainly a collected containment of upbeat energy and active grooves, while also bringing colorful, passionate vocals and lyrics that breathe desire and love into your being. Through and through, this EP is packed with enough soul, R&B, afro-soul, and psychedelic components to quench your thirst for a long, long time.
Bells Atlas consists of Derek Barber (Guitar), Geneva Harrison (Drums/percussion/keys), Sandra Lawson-Ndu (Vocals, percussion, keys), and Doug Stuart (Bass, vocals, keys). Together they’ve managed to bring all of their talent and influence and meld it into an interesting and contagious sound that I can’t get enough of. They’ve been hustling for the past couple of years in Oakland and elsewhere and are even a part of the stellar roster of artists under SanFran/NYC artist management company Salty Artist Management (Girraffage, GEMS, Beat Culture, etc). I think it’s safe to say that these folks are headed to some big festival stages in no time. The intro track “Future Bones” is definitely my favorite off of the EP, but they’re all magnificent. Stream it below and be sure to shell over the measly $5 to purchase the EP and support them so they can keep releasing gems like these for us in the future!
