New York trio Little Daylight will release their debut full-length album Hello Memory next week (July 15) on Capitol Records. The 10 track album is full of synth-pop with substance and does not disappoint.

The album opens with a trio of songs that could easily find a nice home on radio. Lead single “Overdose” immediately hypnotizes you and draws you into one of the catchiest hooks of the year. “Siren Call” only further captivates and showcases the true “hit-making” ability of the band.

Anyone can stack a band’s hits or catchiest material at the beginning of the album. It happens all the time. This is where Little Daylight really shines. The rest of the album only continues the trend of substantive synth-pop with depth and variety. 50 similar-sounding artists have come across my desk in the last 6-8 months and this “sound” or “style” is very saturated at the moment. Little Daylight prove on Hello Memory that they are a cut above the vast majority of their contemporaries and can deliver a well-crafted, complete album.

The middle part of the album takes us on a tour through the years. The very 80’s “Love Stories” slows things down a bit and proves the trio can thrive at any tempo…it’s one of the absolute highlights of the album. “Mona Lisa” follows and is reminiscent of a classic 90’s pop gem. “Be Long” is a modern shot of dream pop: a deliberate, delicate, brilliant song that is perfectly at home in between the very different tracks surrounding it.

What we get at the end of Hello Memory is not what you might expect. With “No One Else But You,” we get our only taste of dual male/female vocals, which adds a refreshing touch to an already memorable song. “Runaround” gives us a delightfully Haim-esque track which could easily become a fan-favorite. The closer “Never Go Back” is a bit of a curveball, ending the album with pounding, urgent synths and the simple proclamation “we can never go back.”

Overall, Hello Memory delivers on everything a synth-pop album should be. It has big catchy hits, it’s got skillfully executed slower tracks, and it’s got variety. More than all that though: the album is consistent. I’d recommend it for almost any music fan. Pre-order the album HERE and watch the video for “Overdose” below.
