Check out the newest single “Hostage” from Florida-based electro-pop duo AubergineMACHINE. Aubergine MACHINE, a collaboration between world renowned multi-platinum selling producer Ian Carey and new-comer Shanti Ellis, are creating genre-blending electronic music with pop/mainstream appeal. The single has characteristics similar to elements that might be found in singles from Flume, Basement Jaxx, Diplo, and other EDM/Electronic-heavy music. The vocals are mixed really well into the track and Shanti definitely has a nice tone that fits perfectly in front of these beats and sythns.
While there are definitely some typical, post-dubstep beat characteristics, the brighter synth elements, as well as the vocal melody help set it apart from other music in this expansive and constantly changing area of the electronic music scene. The House remix of the single is also a nice twist on the original and I almost like it more than the original single. This is definitely an interesting time to be putting out music around this EDM scene that has erupted and I feel that, with some more complex and ear-bending structural elements, this duo can make a name for themselves among the masses.
