Walking through downtown LA on a Friday night was refreshing, as was the new music and cool vibe for Chuck Inglish’s Convertibles album release party at The Well, presented by Red Bull Sound Select.
Stepping through The Well, a high-end street fashion boutique with a salon in the front, and chilled out performance venue in the back, I could tell this place was different, but a really dope type of different.
The opening act, Thurz, started the party with his band S.O.M.E. (Spaced Out Musical Ensemble). Soulful, funky, and all around good music, Thurz and S.O.M.E. played a new track “High Castle,” which was originally recorded for a special Red Bull Sound Select release on Record Store Day, as well as some material from his L.A. Riot album. It was Thurz’s first time playing his hometown with the new band, and it felt like they were right at home.
One half of The Cool Kids, Chuck Inglish, took the stage sporting a 1992 Reebok shirt and fitted Live Well cap. He didn’t disappoint as he gave the crowd some of his new joints from “Convertibles” such as the G-Funk tinged “Elevators,” with the help of Polyester the Saint. Inglish also delved into some classic Cool Kids tracks like the grimy 80’s drum machine bop of “Freak City.”
The night was of course mainly about celebrating the release of Chuck Inglish debut solo album Convertibles. One of the standout tracks of the night was the danceable new single “Legs,” featuring Chromeo.
Be sure to check out Convertibles which dropped today, and be on the lookout for other Red Bull Sound Select events in your city.
