Toronto’s Casey Moon completes his trilogy of EPs with the release of Ashes

Casey Moon is a genre-defying multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer. Over the past year, Casey has already released Fountains and Mirrors in his trilogy of EPs. The final EP, Ashes, is out on Feb 16. Each project varies in genre and draws thematic influence from a different film or TV series. Listened to sequentially, the projects tell a story about growing up, identity, love, and loss.

Lead single from the latest EP “Distance” perfectly exemplifies the project’s overall sonic intentions.

Drawing inspiration from the film, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Ashes is about the sudden horror of waking up and finding yourself in the throes of self destruction. Habits can creep up on you. You might be feeling like you’re in too deep, stuck in your own mess. The movie is all about memory, the will to forget and the pitfalls of not moving forward, which is expressed throughout the album lyrically.

“Writing music has always been a way for me to understand complex emotions,” says Casey. “I feel like this project has helped me make sense of a very tough time in my life, figuring out how I got there and what changes I needed to make. I hope it can do the same for someone else.”
