Casey Møøn is a genre-defying multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and half of the production duo Zookids. Having handled production for Young Thug, Gunna, and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, written for independent artists in the indie-pop world, and played in a slough of rock bands over the years, his style has absorbed an eclectic array of influences.
His new EP, fountains, was heavily inspired by Richard Linklaters’ Before Sunrise and John Knowles’ A Separate Peace. Both capture the feeling of being in a place that you’ll one day look back on with a lens that you can’t yet understand, good or bad.
“One day we’ll wish we were here again,” Casey proclaims on “autumn calls,” his new track born from a short story. Having felt untethered and dissociated in most of his early twenties, he now interprets this statement optimistically.
Fountains reflects the wide-eyed wonder of childhood, the first in a trilogy of EPs. Mirrors and Ashes will follow, each project varying in genre and drawing thematic influence from a different film or TV series. Listened to sequentially, the collection is about growing up, love, and loss.
