April 5, Kemba Live
Days after kicking off their first full tour since before pandemic lockdown, The Revivalists brought a storm with them to Kemba Live. Hamilton, Ohio native David Shaw led the 8-piece band through a swaggering set of deep cuts and crowd pleasers, starting off with ‘Criminal’ from their 2014 album City of Sound and ending their encore with their monumental 2015 hit ‘Wish I Knew You’ from Men Amongst Mountains.
Earlier this month in an interview with highway81revisited.com, Shaw said about this tour,
“We hadn’t been out on a real tour in about two years. A lot of these shows on this specific one[sic], people have been waiting for two years, been holding their tickets for two years. We want to be able to give the people something real, something raw, something that is vulnerable, something that is not perfect and polished. Something that [the audience] can aspire to be, and something that they can pride themselves upon. And I just want to give the people a good feeling in their heart and their mind. At the end of the day, those are the things that drive me, that I did a service for these people and made them feel something. I think that’s a really special thing.”
The anticipation was tangibly in the air as a few fans yelled out the specific shows they had missed, brimming with excitement at finally receiving the show that they had missed over the last two years. By the time a powerful rendition of ‘Soulfight’ (with expert pedal steel guitar from Ed Williams) and a stripped down version of ‘Wish I Knew You’ had finished the encore, the Kemba Live crowd was more than satiated.
