Melina Coolen is a Canadian musician, songwriter and audio engineer. Retropop influence is undeniable in her carefully self-produced sound and sophisticated songwriting style. She fuses that trademark sound with folk, jazz and progressive rock colourings in her sophomore EP, Windows. It’s an exquisite collection of idiosyncratic pop miniatures.
Lead single “I Believe in You and Me” featuring Sarah Frank (The Bombadils) was written in self-comfort, to persevere and move forward through the tough days. “You can hear the battle scars, but you can also hear the strength to carry on in faith,” Melina encourages.
She expands on the EPs objective:
“I like to think of my EP ‘Windows’ as a collection of moments or windows into people’s lives. The inspiration for the album title, ‘Windows’, came from my time living in a new city. Although it was lonely at first, I felt comfort watching the city light up and come to life at night. There were other people out there, each with their own story – maybe some like mine! So collectively, I think it’s fun to think of the whole EP like stepping into someone’s window and having them sing their stories to you like a musical!”
