The state of Roddy Ricch

In this day and age where trolls run the internet and the opinion of your fans is on full display for all to see is it imperative that artist have thick skin? Coming in guns blazing in 2019 with his debut album ” Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial ” which in my opinion had zero skips and was the best album of the year Roddy seemingly disappeared off the face of the earth after receiving hate from people on the internet about the mother of his sons appearance.

He posted his goodbyes on the internet pretty much denouncing fame and saying he wanted nothing to do with the Industry. He later returned to music after a long hiatus dropping singles  like his hit record Late at night and landing on the remix to Lemonade with Gunna and Don Toliver. In my opinion it did seem like he was a little rusty going back in to music and was still trying to find his footing but none the less when it was announced that he was dropping a album in late 2021 I was still excited to see how it would stand up against his previous album. LIVE LIFE FAST was instantly hated by his fans the week it dropped it also performed poorly with first week sales only selling 63,504 copies a lot lower than his debut which did 101k.

To be honest his album was bad but it wasn’t as bad as the internet made it seem I literally never seen so much hate for album in my life. Its understandable that Roddy felt some type of way about the reception of the album. Being a artist and sharing your work with world can be a very scary thing to do because you never really know what the  feedback will be imagine working on a project for a  year or several months and thousands of stranger on the internet tell you its trash. I’m sure its not the best feeling but its apart of being a artist and its what comes with fame.

I few days ago Roddy released a snippet of a song he was working on that had pretty personal lyrics obviously he was confident with his work even though it was unmastered and had questionable production choices. Twitter went crazy !!! Calling Roddy a flop and saying the snippet was trash.Roddy deactivated all his social media soon after and wrote on his instagram story “Guess I’m a flop” and three peace sign emojis. I love Roddys music and I think he’s very talented even though I’m not the biggest fan of his latest releases but I think people need to understand that artist are still human and that Roddy is only 23 literally one year older than me

Everyone should remember that their words hold weight even when its on a screen. I also think that Roddy should really learn how to deal with negative criticism because at the end of the day it’s not going anywhere. Hopefully he does come back hard and more equip to handle fame I really wish him the best and hope to see the old Roddy again.
