Carelessly scrolling through Tik Tok a few months ago I stumbled upon a great artist whose music I had never heard before that artist was no other then Columbus, Ohio native Brakence ! I only heard a few seconds of his biggest song to date Fuck Boy and I was instantly impressed and intrigued. I quickly made my way to Spotify to check out his discography and was not disappointed but two questions popped in to my head. A. why have I never heard this guys music before (especially since we’re both from the same city) and B. what is this genre. To me Brakence is a mix of Pop, Punk, and electronic music the three genres all put together in my opinion are the recipe for ” The Next Big Thing” plus this guys voice is amazing ! When you look at huge artist like The Weekend finding great success with dark subject matter with Pop undertones and Billie Eilish another huge artist with a electropop, emo pop sound and amazing vocals it only make sense that Brakence would soon be a household name as well . Even though his last album was released in November of 2020 and he only had one single drop in 2021 “Argyle” you can clearly tell that this guy is talented and has spent time developing his sound plus he’s only 19 and to me that means he’s just gonna keep getting better and better. Last night I noticed that he had dropped a new song “CBD” with a music to compliment the song that’s currently sitting at 24k views after 11hours of being up. The song is smooth and catchy but it still fits his dark persona with the lyrics and the acronym title CBD. When I seen the title I’m sure you all know what came to mind but I was completely off CBD meant Chilling. By . Death! If this new single by Brakence is a peek in to his future music or possible album this year he’ll definitely start to gain more traction on the road to fame. Brakence currently has about 800,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and I predict that by the end of 2022 that number will double but only time and the music will tell. I recommend anyone reading this article to keep a close eye on this guy this year and to check out the music video down below.
