SHERIF is an Egyptian American singer/songwriter originally from the DMV area of Northern Virginia, but is currently based in Hollywood . For years SHERIF has been tearing up the scene with timeless tracks like Another Life, Delilah, and Leave Me Hanging. With a very extensive and impressive catalog of music, there’s something in his discography for everyone. SHERIF’s incredible storytelling ability crossed with his genre-bending tunes definitely makes him an artist to look out for. He plans on dropping his debut album, What It’s Like To Be Human, by the end of 2021 so definitely keep an eye out for that. In the meantime, check out our interview with SHERIF below.
What are the plans for the rest of 2021?
Right now is the calm before the storm. I’m rolling out a couple more singles and some more content for the album WILTBH that will release at the top of the new year. I have some big plans for 2022 and a trilogy series of 3 albums I’m releasing. What It’s Like To Be Human is the first in the trilogy.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years I see myself as a business man that moonlights as an artist. I want my hands in every facet of art and entertainment. A record label is my main focus but I have plans for the film industry as well. I hope to keep continuing to create things that inspire me and the world and to continue growing as an artist. I’ll be putting out music until I die though.
Who are some of your greatest musical influences?
My top three have to be Jay-Z, Prince and Frank Ocean. I’ve also been influenced heavily by A$AP Rocky, The Weeknd, Blood Orange, Majid Jordan, Sade, Drake and Kanye West. Let me also throw in Ariel Pink and The Beatles.
If you could choose 5 artists to work with, who would they be?
1. Frank Ocean
2. Jay-Z
3. The Weeknd
4. Kanye West
5. Majid Jordan
Do you enjoy being in the studio more or performing live?
Performing live is the ultimate euphoria. It’s complete freedom. The inner child comes out and you are your complete self and nothing else matters. Being in the studio is a close 2nd. When you create a song from scratch and you put something that didn’t exist before into the universe, it’s really a surreal feeling. I can be in the studio 12 hours a day 7 days a week and be completely happy and content. Studio breaks are important though.
What separates you from the thousands of other artists trying to make it?
My music speaks for itself. My pen speaks for itself. I’m not competing with anyone else. I’m competing with myself.
