We’re excited to share the fresh new single from emerging NYC producer/DJ Malibu Cathy. We also had the chance to catch up with her and learn more about her background and musical inspirations. Check it out and listen to the new single below!
Where are you currently based?
I’m based in New York City, while music was always my passion it wasn’t until 2018 I decided to pursue it fully. Living in Colorado for 4 years opened me up to this new world of heavier electronic bass music that resonated with me.
What are some of your main influences and how did you get started making music?
I’m heavily influenced by Toronto-based producers like Rezz and Zed’s Dead. What gave me the confidence to create music was when I learned Rezz just picked up Ableton one day and taught herself production by watching YouTube tutorials. That provided me the self-confidence I needed to believe in myself and trust my mind.
What was the process behind the making of this single?
Ultimately, with this track I wanted to provide people with the same out-of-mind experience that I was subject to while finding my own identity in the process. “Into the Aether” is about freeing yourself, opening your mind beyond the what we know as reality and conscious-thinking. The shield hides the one dimension of facial expression, while the tracks I’m creating radiate outcry and personal experience.
What else can we look forward to this year?
I’m working on releasing an EP in the early fall which will bring in more elements of experimental bass and sound design.
