Griselda Records, the hip hop collective/record label from Buffalo, NY, just dropped the soundtrack to their upcoming feature film, Conflicted.
The album features Griselda regulars Benny the Butcher, Westside Gunn, Boldy James, Dave East, Lloyd Banks, Smoke DZA, and Wale, among others. The characteristically grimy production is supplied by in-house producer Daringer, with contributions from the likes of IceRoxx, Fuse, 808 Mafia, Camouflage Monk, and the late longtime collaborator DJ Shay.
Starring Benny the Butcher, Conflicted tells the story of Hunter, played by Benny, an ex-gangster fresh out of prison who’s trying to go straight. Directed by Buffalo native AK Reed, the movie also stars Westside Gunn with appearances from others such as singer J Holiday and Michael Rapaport. The movie will be out on January 15th.
Founded in 2012 by rapper Westside Gunn, Griselda Records has since made a name for itself with a ridiculous deluge of clinically cold-blooded projects and features. In the past three years, Westside Gunn alone has dropped 13 full albums. Along with fellow members Conway the Machine and Benny the Butcher, and recent addition Boldy James, the collective has elevated themselves from a niche underground group to having their music used in Off-White fashion shows and releasing an album on Eminem’s Shady Records label. Conflicted represents their first foray into the film industry, and fans will be eager to see if they can pull off a transition to a new medium.
