Southern California based duo Neffex is getting ready for their debut album, however they already have quite an impressive catalog of music since releasing 100 songs in 100 weeks and amassing 1.5B streams.
GroundSounds recently caught up with the Cameron Wales and Bryce Savage to talk about their latest music and plans, check out the interview below.
How did the two of you meet?
We met in a punk rock garage band at 15 years old called Racket on Clairemont.
When did you start playing/writing music together?
We started writing together at 15 after we became friends and realized how much we enjoyed working together so we eventually broke off from the band to go do our own thing.
Who wrote the music and what’s that process like?
We’ve both written tons of music but Bryce handles a lot of the writing and Cameron a lot of the engineering for NEFFEX.
Musical inspiration?
Our musical inspiration is everything from Nirvana, to Blink 182, to third eye blind, and many other 90s bands. We’ve had so many influences from different styles of music, which has played a big role in how much experimenting we’ve done with different sounds for NEFFEX.
How did you have the time to make 100 songs in 100 weeks? Can you explain your process?
We honestly didn’t have the time we had to make it. We would wake up at 5am to write and record music before work and stay up late writing lyrics. Our process was divided between us to get the most work done. I would produce and write the lyrics for a song and then would record it with Cam and he would finish it and get it ready for release on Wednesday. This way we could get as much music out as possible. We never banked up songs for releases so every week was repetition of that process, which helped us really get into a groove.
If you could open a show for any artist, who would it be?
I think we’d both love to open a show for anyone that we grew up listening to. If we had to pick one Blink 182 would be pretty epic.
What do you do for fun when you’re not making music?
When we’re not making music we can be doing anything from swimming in our pool having a few beers, to playing video games to binge watching game of thrones lol
What is one message you want your fans to know?
One message for our fans is to never give up and believe in yourself because a lot of times no one else will. You have to be your number one fan to make it.
What does your band name mean?
Freedom. Freedom of expression and art. It’s a word we made up but that’s it’s meaning now.
What’s next for NEFFEX?
Next for NEFFEX is A LOT of new music and some of our best music yet. We can’t wait to get this stuff out. And hopefully a world tour soon haha we’ve been eager to get back on the road since our last tour in Europe.
