RHODE ISLAND: community college Shares “broken back” Live at Big Nice Studio

There’s a wonderful, artful synergy that occurs when the right music in a live setting is artfully committed to video. For the good people at the Big Nice Studio in Lincoln, RI, their new creative endeavor is a filmed extension of what they see and hear through the other side of the glass, in Hi8 vision.

Big Nice Studio heads Bradford Krieger and Chaimes Parker recently invited in eight of their favorite bands for an all-day/night live session which was mixed and filmed by the former and engineered by the latter. Today, GroundSounds is excited to be featuring a clip of acclaimed indie-rockers community college performing “broken back,” off of their latest release comco. (out via Disposable America)

Krieger shares, “I found this old Hi8 camera in my parents basement over the winter and had been shooting stuff around the studio occasionally and figured it was the perfect opportunity to try and make some live performance videos with it. I love the super zoom and janky quality, it makes everything feel intimate and important, like watching your favorite bands from the early oughts.

We were lucky enough to recruit 8 bands we love to come on February 24th and play for each other all day and well into the night. Bands involved were Horse Jumper of Love, Lilith, Clever Girls, Community College, NOVA ONE, Saccharine, Kelsey Rose Francis, and Night Nurses. The folks at Narragansett supplied us with a few cases and we all shared dinner from Curry Kitchen, probably the best Indian food in North America.”

John Margaris of community college further detailed, “Big Nice is both a professional and inclusive environment, easy to be comfortable but also get work done. This video captures pretty much exactly how we recorded comco, live in that exact room – just this time it was part of an all-day session where multiple bands took turns playing with that same setup. Brad captured all of it on his childhood camera and the videos have a distinct feel to them – can’t wait to see the rest of them!”
