Denver indie-rock duo Compass & Cavern formed in Denver in 2014. Combining intricate hooks and catchy lyricism, Compass & Cavern delivers a sound ripe with appeal to fans across alternative and pop, taking influence from the likes of HelloGoodbye, Panic at the Disco & twentyonepilots. Today we’re excited to premiere their new song “Play Your Cards Right” – streaming below! Play Your Cards Right is about the importance of being honest and using any and all kinds of power and advantages to improve the world.
This track is especially interesting to us because it’s in 7/4 time. This came out of a wonderful accident with a loop pedal. Will was playing random harmonics on his guitar at random intervals, and they happened to arrange almost perfectly into what became the lead synth hook (0:11-0:14). The rest of the song fell into place after that!
