Conn Raney grew up in Modesto, CA with his parents listening to everything from Motown to classic rock n roll. However, Conn took a liking to hip hop from the moment he heard the song Gangsta’s Paradise. He began recording his own music in college when he partnered up with a producer and gained access to the studio on campus. He draws on his love for people as well as his prior professional pursuits to write and perform his music. He spent 3 years working in non-profits and 4 years as a social worker helping underprivileged children and families and plans to use his influence as an artist to continue to help those who are underprivileged on a global scale. Conn stands by the phrase “money is great but helping other people is what feeds me.”
Today we’re excited to premiere his new song “Simple Man” – streaming below. The song’s instant likability is off the charts. Massive hook, refreshing flows, impressive harmonies…”Simple Man” has it all, and could vault Conn Raney into a new stratosphere.
In his own words:
I wrote Simple Man during an extremely trying period of time in my life. Within a year and a half I lost my grandfather, William Huston Pearce, and my high school football coach, Jeff Martin. My grandfather died at the age of 95 and Jeff died a sudden and unexpected death due to heart complications when he was only 47 years old. However, both of these men shared something in common. Their lives were the embodiment of the message behind Simple Man: you will make mistakes in life and that’s ok. We all tend to live our lives with a great deal of pressure placed on ourselves to never fail. While they made plenty of mistakes, and so have I, Simple Man is a reminder to never give up on yourself or those around you!
