Brooklyn based post-hardcore band Stay Inside have released their newest EP, The Sea Engulfs Us and the Light Goes Out. Comprised of four transplants, Bartees Cox, Jr. (guitar, vox) of Yukon, OK, Chris Johns (guitar, vox) of Hockessin, DE, Vishnu Anantha (drums) of Wayne, PA and Bryn Nieboer (bass, vox) of Los Angeles, CA, Stay Inside continues to push boundaries and challenge listeners to embrace their deeper thoughts and feelings while facing today’s climate.

This six-track EP follows the success of their debut EP released in Spring 2017, As You Were. They recently signed to Old Press Records and will continue to impress with the subtle combination of aggression and emotion.

They kick off with “Advice From A Caterpillar” that slowly lures us into the hard-core experience to follow and flows from melodic instrumentation to the rock we are waiting for. Next up is “Reconstruction” which starts with moody vibes then moves towards a more steady and heartfelt feel that will have you grooving along with the driving beat.

As a small 47 second breather, “(fishtank)” shows the versatility of Stay Inside and prepares you to intake the rest of the album. The transition is seamless into “Fever and “Jealousy,” the most emotion-filled of the EP that sheds a light on the anger and tumultuous feelings that arise when loving someone.

Track number five titled “Your Guardsmen Swarm Like Locusts” is the most upbeat of the bunch with a lively feel and lyrics that call to action. Finishing out strong with “We Look On In Echoes,” leaves you with a combination of being uplifted but also a bittersweetness of holding up a mirror to your own provocative thoughts and feelings.

Stay Inside takes you on a roller coaster of emotions with this EP while planting seeds of challenging what is accepted as norms and the current state of the world.
