Chicago singer/songwriter Todd Kessler is gearing up to release his new album About Memory this Fall. He recently released his new song “Old Fashioned Way” and is quickly turning heads with a timeless folk sound. We are excited to premiere the video for “Old Fashioned Way” today. Using old home video footage, the video provides the most fitting visuals for this “lemonade on the front porch” song guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
In his own words:
This song came about after hearing so many horror stories of friends using online dating websites. It made me think how glad I was that I never had to do that because I have been with my wife for 17 years as we met at Overnight Camp and online dating didn’t exist back then! The song is essentially an exercise in nostalgia, evoking images of type writers, writing letters instead of texts, and an aversion to the technology of dating (“I much prefer it to the bright blue light”). The idea for the video revolved around using actual home movies. I sent the director hours of videos dating from the 40’s to the 80’s. The idea morphed into telling the love story of my “parents” following them through their courtship, from a party with friends to buying a house to getting engaged, all of it bookended by actual footage of me as a baby.”
