We’ve covered a group here at GroundSounds in the past called Bows, which consists of duo Kaila and Luke Baće. We had a nice chat with them recently, they make some awesome songs, so go check them out if you haven’t yet! Well, anyways, for now we understand that Bows is actually taking a little break and Kaila has just debuted her solo project Firemaid, putting the song up on Soundcloud just a couple days ago. Here’s what Kaila had to say about the track:
“I began writing the piece right before the election, initially a love song and an attempt to defend the way in which she shows affection. But on that fateful November night, the results rolled in and the world seemed to begin imploding. The romantic inspiration for the song no longer seemed important, and a new theme developed. The song is produced in an intentionally hybrid manner: recorded onto tape with live drums, bass, wurly, and organ. The warm, organic sounds of the band were mixed with highly affected vocals. The synthetic harmonies and autotune represent the complacent, robotic, screen-addicted masses we’ve become, hardly taking the time to look up and see a world full of natural beauty. “This Is How I Love” is a cry out into a dark, violent abyss that seems impenetrable. It is a demand to be taken seriously, a refusal to back down in the face of hatred, and a promise to continue to show compassion at any cost.”
