Stockholm based duo Death Team are emerging with fresh and funky electro-pop goodness. Maya Edd and Johen Rafael Tilli are terrorizing earbuds with pure sonic goodness and stimulating eyeballs with high styling visuals. With fresh new sounds and good vibes, the pair are definitely making moves and causing a ruckus.

GroundSounds recently caught up with this eccentric duo to talk about their latest music, inspirations and more, check out the exclusive interview with Death Team below!

For those just discovering Death Team, can you tell us a little bit about your background, how did you two meet and start making music?

We met at a party and started talking and was like: “Lets make some music together!”
We had both been struggling with our past music projects for many years and Death Team truly came in and changed our lives.

What made you decide on the name Death Team?

We think it’s unfair that the metal bands get to have all the cool band names like “Metallica” and “Slayer,” so we wanted to make some kind of statement by naming our band Death Team.

We think that every visitor should shop in the gift stores that sells Swedish flag t-shirts along Drottninggatan in Stockholm. It’s also very beautiful in the archipelago.

Can you tell us about the writing and creative process involved with your latest track “Messed Up?”

We went to Denmark to write songs with our friend Birk. We wanted to make some kind of perfect mix between Drake and T.a.t.u and future bass about partying while feeling sad.

Can you tell us about filming the music video for “Messed up?” What was this day like?

Haha. We filmed the whole video in one day. It was crazy. The director Kristoffer Jansson is a true mad man and a genius, we love working with him. It was really cold outside and we used a very expensive camera.

What bands/musicians are you guys currently listening to?

Tove Lo and Spice Girls and Charli Xcx.

Can you tell us about the inspiration for your fresh track “Soul?”

Wow, we’re so happy that your bringing that little gem up. It all started with an argument about the existance of the soul, and to prove to Johan that the soul exists Maja wrote the chorus saying “I got soul, you got soul, we got soul.”

What was it like bringing your latest EP ‘Death Team Loves You’ to fruition?

It was fun but took alot of energy so we had to go on vacation for three weeks afterwards.

You guys recently signed a new deal with Warner Music, what was this day like? What were you feeling/thinking when the pen hit the paper?

It feels amazing actually. We love our tean over at Warner and we could’t do this without them. They both understands and agrees on our vision which is pretty amazing actually.

What went through your minds when you won the P3 Gold Award?

This must be a dream, this can not be real.

What’s next for Death Team, what can fans look forward to?

We are working on some A++ tracks. The first one “Work” is released in the end of January.
