The hand that wields it

With his previous band, Envy On The Coast, having various features in AP Magazine, and garnering numerous accolades and critical praise, Brian Byrne decided 2016 was the perfect time to debut his songwriting and production skills for The Hand That Wields It. The result is an EP that showcases his immense talent as a solo artist. Call it electronic rock, dream pop, or any combination of elements – what it is more than anything is memorable. It’s the absolute perfect soundtrack to pop in your headphones and take a walk on a hot summer night. It is hopefully only a brief window into what’s to come.

In his own words:

Writing and recording this EP was quite a long process to distill probably 30 or 40 musical ideas into 4 songs I felt represented my musical sensibilities at the time, and also served as an adequate introduction to what I can do as a solo artist. The whole reason I even considered making music by myself is because in my other projects, I’d been a creative contributor, occasional songwriter, but always subjected my input to other people. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but I felt like it was time for me to indulge my weird side and play with textures and sounds that normally wouldn’t work in a traditional band format. That, combined with where I found myself in my personal life, really provided a creatively fertile environment to work from. I’ve never been a prolific songwriter, quite the opposite actually.

Some of the songs on this EP stemmed from ideas that were written as far back as 2010. I tend to marinate ideas and put them through stress tests to see if they’ll stand the test of time, and when they do, I know I have something special.”

The EP only lasts 16 minutes, but it’ll stay with you long after. Stream it below and connect online for more!
