BRIAN-BRATER

The entrepreneurial spirit can be a curse and/or a gift, however for music producer, record label founder and serial digital media entrepreneur Brian Brater, it has definitely been the latter. From founding Rawkus Records to the digital media brand Uproxx, he has been innovating and inspiring for more than two decades. Music has always been with Brian, he grew up in New York playing upright bass and finding inspiration from jazz greats like Thelonius Monk, Duke Ellington and Wes Montgomery.  He has played an integral role in illuminating the lives of artists, it’s an important thing in our society and his latest venture the artist collective, Sherbert Gang, finds him partnering up with another like-minded and inspiring individual, Amir H. Fallah, founder of the critically acclaimed magazine Beautiful/Decay. Brian has officially entered the artist mindset, in its purest form.

“Where art and pop culture marry, to me this is what Sherbert Gang really means”

– Brian Brater

Brian’s not making popular EDM type music that is based around “the drop.” He records everything and does his own sound design. With an acute attention to detail, he tunes all his kicks, snares and achieves his dynamic levels through analog. Everything is laid out, chopped up and precise, creating a very eloquent and succinct sound.

With a certain emotional resonance, Sherbert Gang’s first fresh new track “Far Away” is about escapism. The track leaves a positive impression, it has a liberating tone with creamy polyrhythmic vibes, it’s pure sonic goodness.

Brian has proven time and time again the ability to marry art and commerce successfully, as he continues on his path everything is making sense.  Life is one of those things that must be lived forward but can only be understood looking back. For the collective known as Sherbert Gang, the puzzle pieces of the past have fallen into place, nothing is truly far away.
