You’ve heard their songs, but have you seen them perform?
On June 5, Cage the Elephant stormed Columbus’s Express Live with non-stop energy, stage-diving, handshakes and high fives to fans, and a just as animated set list.
From Bowling Green, Kentucky, and on their fourth studio album, Cage the Elephant consists of lead singer Matt Shultz, guitarist Brad Shultz (Matt’s older brother), bassist Daniel Tichenor, drummer Jared Champion, touring keyboardist/guitarist Matthan Minster and touring lead guitarist Nick Bockrath.
As the show started, lead singer Matt Shultz didn’t just enter the stage, he burst onto it, running to the end of the catwalk where a microphone was waiting for him and started his set, opening up with “Cry Baby” from their latest album “Tell Me I’m Pretty.”
As security guards kept fans at bay, the band played songs from all of their albums, including “In One Ear,” “Take it or Leave it,” “Aberdeen,” “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked,” “Mess Around” and crowd favorites “Come a Little Closer,” “Cigarette Daydreams” and “Shake Me Down,” along with several others.
At one point during the show Matt, launched into the audience where fans held him up in the crowd. (Can you imagine being one of those people, the ones who were able to help Matt Shultz crowd-surf?) Matt’s energy on stage (and in the crowd) is addicting, and it’s nearly impossible to take your eyes off of him as he performs.
After the encore, Matt was sure to hug his brother, and he also thanked his fans by offering handshakes and throwing several guitar picks into the crowd.
Cage is still touring, as they move throughout the United States and then to Europe, eventually returning to the states to play the IHeartRadio Music Festival in Vegas in September and then the Austin City Limits Music Festival.
This is definitely a show you don’t want to miss.
