We’re often asked for playlists of what we’re currently listening to. With our new “Non-Skip” list segments, each staff member will curate their own unique playlist of new music they’ve been enjoying.
Issue #3: March 28 (Issue #2, Issue #1)
Ra Ra Riot – “Call Me Out”
An homage to infectiously catchy 80’s pop with RRR’s string section adding brilliant touches.
Pete Yorn – “Lost Weekend”
One of the best at the ‘simple hook,’ meaning he doesn’t have to throw bells and whistles into a song or make a chorus ‘huge’ to create an addicting hook. Awesome song and album.
Brian Fallon – “Painkillers”
I could have replaced this with pretty much any song on his new album. He’s one of my favorite active musicians and the new album is fantastic.
The 1975 – “A Change Of Heart”
The best mid-tempo song they’ve made. They can make bubbly and endearing pop songs all day long, but songs like this are what elevates them to their lofty status.
Miike Snow – “The Heart Of Me”
One of the most re-playable tracks of the month.
Bootblacks – “Southpole”
The mysterious vibe blends perfectly with the unique vocals. Give their album a spin and put the name Bootblacks on your radar.
Matt Kivel – “Violets”
Wonderful record when you need to unwind. “Violets” is a great jam.
Tyson Motsenbocker – “Evangeline”
One of the best new finds of 2016. Tyson’s debut album is emotional, impactful, and stunningly well done.
The Knocks – “Classic (ft. Powers)”
Write in The Knocks new album in my “Fun” list for the end of the year. They cast a wide musical net for the album and on nearly every single track, they created a winner.
Everything Everything – “Regret”
Quirkly, intelligent, and damn good. Their new album should not be overlooked.
