Detroit: Charity – ‘Yellow’ EP

Brendon Goldwasser

charity-01Coming to us from Detroit, gorgeous R&B visionary Charity is bursting onto the scene with powerful songwriting and seemingly effortless vocal melodies, exhibiting the finest elements of Pop, Jazz, and Folk. That’s where it all begins, but I would certainly not limit her to those sounds or genres, her music is intricate and each song allows the listeners to step outside of their own comfort zone and make the music fit in whatever place makes sense.

Her debut single “Beautiful Moments,” from her forthcoming Yellow EP, is a perfect window into the creative mind and expansive tastes of Charity. Oh, did I forget to mention that she also plays guitar on the record and is a student of Classical and Jazz guitar?! That’s right, not only is she a strong lyricist, but her musical prowess is of the highest class and she has the ability to craft songs that are complete with both imagination and catchy vibes.

Growing up in Detroit, a city that’s familiar with wounds, she was exposed to many different types of music and realized that it had ability to connect peolple. The soul music of the ‘70s showed her how music can move the body. John Mayer’s guitar guided her to explore her own instrument and fellow-Detroiter Stevie Wonder taught her about the key of life. At 18, Charity left home for Nashville, TN, where she studied at Tennessee State University. Now graduated, Charity now focuses on her music and teaches elementary-aged students with academic disabilities. For her, both are acts of healing. GroundSounds can always get behind that! We love sharing new music with you, but especially love the opportunity to share music with you that hopefully encourages you to reach your full potential and help others along the way. Stream her single below and be sure to look out for her Yellow EP to drop on September 18th. Follow her at the links under the track!
