Reading based band Sundara Karma (Oscar Pollock, Haydn Evans, Ally Baty, Dom Cordell) have us hooked with addicting guitar riffs, pulsating drums and catchy pop hooks. Their latest track “Flame” is full of summery vibes and euphoric sounds that will keep you spinning it for months, it is pure sonic goodness. They recently signed with Chess Club Records and with an expected record to drop in early 2016 the writing is on the wall- Sundara Karma is breaking through.

GroundSounds recently caught up with the four-piece to talk about their latest projects, musical inspirations and more check out the exclusive interview below.

For those just discovering Sundara Karma, how did you guys come together and start making music?

We all met each other through school basically, started a band when we were 13/14 and have been in the same band ever since.

How did you guys decide on the band name Sundara Karma?

It means “beautiful karma”. I think we stuck with it simply because it was the first name that we had which wasn’t completely ridiculous

11391776_968140799886831_4353373661060937134_nWe are definitely diggin’ your latest fresh track “Flame,” could you tell us about the writing and creative process involved with this track?

The track was inspired by Plato’s allegory of the cave. I remember when I first heard that story, it stuck with me for months! It’s amazing how relevant it is 2,000 years down the line.

What do you guys enjoy most about Reading? What is one thing every visitor should see or do?

The Purple Turtle and Oakford Social club. If you ever come to Reading, be sure to amass your fill of merrymaking at these two places.

What do you guys enjoy most about performing live? What goes through your minds while on stage?

It’s very much a two way thing. If the crowd is into it and going crazy then we will of course meet their measurement of excitement and energy. Some gigs can be dull and lacklustre however, these are the ones that require thinking. Normally not a lot goes through my mind as i just wanna have a good time.

Are you guys working on an upcoming record? If so what can you guys reveal about it? Is there a tentative release date?

I suppose we are now which is such a surreal thing to say! It is coming together really well so far and looks like we are aiming to get it out early 2016.

What was the inspiration for your track “Loveblood?” …we have had this on repeat for the past 4 months!

Awesome. The narrative of the rack was inspired by Oscar Wilde’s short story ‘Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime’. I just really liked the themes of mysticism, fate and the power of suggestion.

What musicians/bands are you guys currently listening to?

We love the new Gengahr album, it’s beautiful. The new Maccabees stuff is getting me really excited too! Can’t wait for that album to drop. Also in crazy anticipation for this Wolf Alice record, it’s gunna melt minds I reckon.

What’s next for Sundara Karma, what can fans look forward to?

More music and more shows & festivals over the summer!
