German electronic DJ/producer Robin Schulz has taken his upbeat dance jams to a new level. He is currently on his first ever North American tour, his track “Prayer in C” just went platinum and the world is clearly his for the taking. GroundSounds recently caught up with Robin to talk about new music, touring, remixes and more, check out the exclusive interview below.

For those just discovering Robin Schulz, could you tell us a little bit about your upbringing? What is it like over in Germany and how did you get started with music?

I started listening to electronic music when I was 12, my dad was a DJ as well. When I was 14 I started my first steps with DJ-ing & 2 years later I started producing. And how is it in Germany? Lovely of course!

How do you decide on the songs that you remix and what is your ultimate goals when remixing a song?

The most important for me is the feeling. I love beautiful and special voices, that’s how I found Mr. Probz on the net.

Robin-Schulz-1-credit-Geturshot.com-webWe have had the David Guetta “Dangerous” remix on repeat…how did you go about re-working this track?

That’s very simple, I met David during the iTunes Festival and he played the track to me backstage and asked me if I wanted to remix it… so I did!

You have been traveling the world and were just in Tokyo …what cities and cultures have you enjoyed most while being on the road?

There are so many great places in the world, but Tokyo was very special. Loved it.

You will start your first US/Canada tour very soon, what are you looking forward to most?

To be honest it was always a dream for me to play in the US. When I heard that some of the venues were nearly sold out I was speechless.

We read that you will be shooting a music video in NYC very soon, what track is the video for? What can you reveal to us about the shoot?

It´s a very very special video for “Sun Goes Down.”

What was it like working with Jasmine Thompson on “Sun Goes Down?”

She is just a huge talent, very special voice. When we talk about Jasmin in 5 years, we are talking about a big star, and beside this a very nice person.

Prayer has done amazing with many of the tracks hitting the charts and going #1, can you tell is about working on this album and bringing it to fruition? Were you surprised by the immediate success?

Of course I was surprised, 2014 just brought me on a roller coaster and I have the feeling it’s just on the way up. Working on the album was a huge experience for me, along with working on mixes for such great bands as Coldplay, Clean Bandit etc.

After you get on off the road, what’s next for Robin Schulz? What can fans look forward to?

I’ve already been working on a new album and have two new tracks finished, also my remix for something new for Axwell/Ingrosso will be released soon and of course a lot of touring. So see you the dance floor!
