Brooklyn-based psych-rockers Sky Picnic are preparing to release their third full length, Her Dawn Wardrobe, set to drop later this year. Although the record has a definitive flow, it is not to be confused with classic, narrative concept albums. The great idea behind Her Dawn Wardrobe is that it’s made to feel like one interconnected song, where side one is daytime into night, while side two is night into dawn.
Sky Picnic’s throwback 60’s sound was most recently featured on their latest single, “June Sunshine,” which incorporates simmering, jazz elements that swirl to form a wonderfully hypnotic dark-psych storm. The track harkens back to the golden age of San Francisco psych with evolving wavelength rhythms and a dark, boiling undercurrent.
Stream Sky Picnic’s “June Sunshine” and look for Her Dawn Wardrobe out soon.
