Oklahoma based rock band BRONCHO are breaking out in a big way. Their sophomore album ‘Just Enough Hip To Be Woman‘ is without a doubt, a bold step forward. With tracks like “Class Historian” and “What” this trio is creating fuzzy, guitar driven rock at its finest.

GroundSounds recently caught up with BRONCHO to talk about their latest tunes, inspirations and more, check out the exclusive interview below.

For those just discovering BRONCHO, could you tell us a little bit about the bands early years and formation?

We started as a four peace 3 years ago with 4 boys, and now we have 2 girls and 3 boys, and better manors.

What is one thing every visitor should see or do in Oklahoma?

Me, you should come see me

What is it about the fuzzy guitar-driven rock sound that attracts you guys to it?

It’s a sound that makes the most sense for these songs. I’ve realized how delicate that line is with guitar tone through this band. The whole aesthetic of the band changes when the guitar tone changes.

Can you tell us about bringing your upcoming album ‘Just Enough Hip To Be Woman’ to fruition? What all did it take to bring this record together?

We toured a lot during the making of it, so it was completed over a stretch of a year and a half. I think working like that and having a little time to revisit ideas and gain some perspective on decisions we had made in the past

Can you tell us about the writing and creative process for the track “What?”

It started as just the bendy solo part. I played that a lot and then wrote a song around it. Lyrically we were confused, still are I think. But I think it’s about our desire to use pronouns.

What are guys feeling/thinking about when you are on stage performing?

I’m never sure what we’re thinking. We have short attention spans, and poor memory. This is a tough question for us. But I do like to look at people. We’re people watchers on stage. As soon as we get all the data, we will submit our study.

What is the story behind “Class Historian”, how did this catchy song with a crazy hook come to be?

My class office in high school was historian. I didn’t have to do much, other than sum up my senior year in a poem for graduation. I guess I had more to tell.

You guys just currently started a huge North American tour, what do you all enjoy most about being on the road?

I like moving a lot. So it helps me achieve that need without even having to think about it much. I’m a homebody/nomad, it’s hard to get out of the van sometimes.

After the album release and tour, what will you guys be working on next?

We’ve been working on ideas for the next record. Hopefully we can continue that while touring more on this current record.
