Born on the subways, street corners and sidewalks of The Big Apple, Brooklyn-based folk ensemble Spirit Family Reunion has a sound comprising both meticulous instrumental arrangement and organic jam-rambling, or in their own words, “homegrown American music to stomp, clap, shake and holler with.”
Favorites at the annual Newport Folk Festival—the preeminent gathering of bluegrass buffs and folk music aficionados—the band recently shared a bill with the likes of Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris and Old Crow Medicine show at the 2014 Buckle Up Music Festival in Cincinnati.
GroundSounds caught up with band members Nick and Stephen to discuss the success of their album “No Separation,” the inspiration for their music and new material from the band slated for release later this year.
