Interview: SLK finds her ‘Form’ on new EP

London based songstress SLK has been on the grind with the recent release of her EP ‘Form’.  She linked up with fellow UK resident Embody who produced all the tracks, creating a nice flow and atmosphere that resonates throughout the EP. 

Featuring pulsating electronic sounds, dark bass, and sultry vocals, SLK doesn’t miss a beat. GroundSounds caught up with her for a quick chat, check out our interview below. 

 

For those just discovering SLK, can you tell us a little bit about your background and how you got started making music?

I am Alt RnB singer songwriter. I started to sing soulful covers a few years ago after being inspired by incredible artists such as Amy Winehouse, Sampha and Roisin Murphy. I made the decision last year to write for myself and draw on all those inspirations to find my own sound. 

Can you tell us about working on your latest EP ‘Form’? What did it take to bring this project to fruition?

‘Form’ is a four track body of work linked with an intro and interlude. The whole EP was produced by the talented Embody. We worked together on all aspects to create a new soundscape for my stories.

When your performing on stage what typically goes through your mind and what are you feeling?

After the initial “what if my trousers fall down”? “what if I fall down”? and “what is the first line again”? Something takes over, I lose myself…it’s one of my favourite places to be.

What do you enjoy most about the UK?

I love the buzz here around music and culture. I also love the wickedly British sense of humour plus my roots.. aka my friends and family.

What are you currently working on? What is next for SLK?

I am currently writing alongside performing. I am looking forward to working with some amazing artists and producers on my new material. Exciting times J
