“Telegraph is an up and coming Nashville band that blends the genres of pop and classic rock. It’s not something you hear everyday, and that’s what makes it absolutely wonderful.”  (Punk Nation)

GroundSounds recently caught up with the Nashville-based trio to discuss their music, love of Nashville, and upcoming EP. Check out the interview and stream their addicting track “Rhinestone Chapel” below!

Why did you guys decide to move to Nashville from Virginia?

We fell in love with Nashville after visiting a couple of times. We are obsessed with the music-first environment, and the fact that everyone has a passion for music and art. It’s a great place to be for aspiring musicians and entertainers.

We’ve noticed a ton of good new music coming out of Nashville recently. What is the music scene like there right now and why do you think we are seeing so much talent in multiple genres coming out of Nashville right now?

It used to be pretty strictly country here in Nashville, but so many artists of different genres are emerging from the Nashville scene in what people are calling “Nashville 2.0”. I think the influx of college kids in both Belmont and Vanderbilt created a demand for multiple genres of music, and the result is the new, eclectic nature of the city.

If you could take two of your influences (one 70’s/80’s classic rock band and one modern pop band/singer) and have them collaborate on a song, which two would you pick?

That’s an awesome question. I think cramming into a room with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones and either Katy Perry or Kelly Clarkson would be incredible. Songwriting has changed so much in the past couple decades, that it would be awesome to sit in a room with both sides of the spectrum and pick their brains.

“Rhinestone Chapel” is such a catchy and addicting song. What inspired this track?

That was actually the first song we wrote for Telegraph. We wrote a song that was very much a classic-rock-inspired tune, and we were curious as to what it would sound like if we produced it like a pop song. We loved the result, so Telegraph was born.

The lyrics were inspired by Rocco’s first visit to Nashville when he stumbled across a little wedding chapel called the “Rhinestone Chapel” on Music Row. It’s a fictional story based on a young couple who get hammered on Broadway, and wind up getting married at the Rhinestone.

In your video for “Rewind,” you reference a bunch of classic movies. What are your top 3 movies of all time?

Collectively, we’d probably pick Back to the Future, Toy Story 3, and That Thing You Do!

Tell us about your debut EP coming out in June. Does it have a title yet? How long have you been working on it and is there a track from it that you guys are particularly excited about?

It’s called “Rewind”, after the title track we released our first music video for. We have been writing songs, trashing songs, recording songs, trashing recordings, and starting all over for a little over 2 years now. We finally figured it out this past Summer, and we finished up recording the EP at the end of last year. We’re super excited about the entire record, but I think we are all partial to the ballad, “Sexy”.

What do you guys have coming up this Spring/Summer? Any big touring plans?

We are currently formulating a plan for a summer tour!  We want to play in as many cities as possible, and definitely want to make our way back home to Virginia to play for all of our hometown friends!

One last Nashville question: if I want to visit, get a bite to eat, and see a show, where do you recommend?

Thanks so much guys, we’re excited about the EP. Where is the best place to stay updated with you online?

The best place to stay updated is our Facebook page and on our twitter
