Royal Bliss have been rocking out for well over a decade, yet they continue to deliver raw, pumped up, tracks.  These Salt Lake City rockers don’t stop, and once again they are on the verge of releasing a new album, Chasing The Sun, due out Feb. 18th.

GroundSounds recently caught up with vocalist Neal Middleton, to discuss the bands new project and more, check out the exclusive interview below.

Guys, we are excited about your upcoming album Chasing The Sun, what has it been like working on this latest project?

It was more relaxed than I think we have even been while doing a record, the fact that we did it here in our home of SLC Utah made it a lot easier. We would hang out at our studio working on songs and doing pre production, Then when we thought we had a few songs to work with we would head in and lay down 4 or 5 with Matt Winegar. It was nice to do it at home because if you had something you wanted to fix you didn’t have to fly out to somewhere else. We had a good time doing this album.

How did you guys come up with the album title Chasing The Sun?

Its kind of a continuation of the past 3 cd’s, It relates to our life in this band. We went through Chaos to get “After The Chaos” then we were in this kind of “Life In Between” stuck between local band and national act and a bit of life or death as well. We then entered a storm and fought through it in “Waiting out the Storm” now we see a light at the end of the tunnel so we are going to chase it. Kind of cheesy but its the truth, we have been on one hell a road and through a lot together. It has not been easy.

Can you tell us about the inspiration and writing process behind the track “Cry Sister”?

Honestly….well I was on a 3 day binger and got in a big fight with the wife. So i was ready to call it quits one way or another. We went into the studio during this 3 day deal and it just fell out of us. The lyrics came screaming out and luckily we had pressed record. My boy Spencer Nielsen was jamming the keys and it sparked something in me a bit o rage I’m afraid.

As a band you guys have been through a lot, can you tell us about pushing through difficult periods?

Its not easy being a band now a days, especially one that makes a living of it. But we don’t really have a fall back plan so its this or nothing. We love making music and performing it and can’t see ourselves doing anything else. But the real key factor is our fans, They believe in us so much and will not let us quit, we don’t want to let them down.

What do you guys enjoy most about performing live?

Connecting with the audience is amazing feeling, For me its like therapy, I get all of those songs and emotions out of my head. The songs are so personal to me so its like venting to a crowd and I love it.

You guys are currently on tour, what do you enjoy most about being on the road?

All the amazing people we meet and amazing places we get to visit, There is no better way to learn about a place than to visit it. From the people to the food we love that part of it. To look out in a crowd a thousand miles from home and see people singing your songs. There is nothing quite like it.

What music are you guys currently listening to?

A bit of everything in this group, I like Blackberry Smoke, Rival Sons, The Lone Bellows, Muse, Beastie Boys, ACDC, and a lot of the classics. We have a pretty diverse mix of bands we listen too.

When can fan expect a music video? Are you guys working on one by chance?

We actually have one out for “Cry Sister” and plan on working on a few others as well here very soon.

Could you guys share some life advice with us?

Its not easy to follow your dreams, at times it may seem they may never come true. But if you give up you will never know, Shoot for the stars if you land on the moon be happy that you made the journey . Never stop dreaming

After the tour, what’s next for Royal Bliss?

We plan on being on the road a lot of this year, then we want to keep writing and recording and hope to start releasing a song a month starting next fall. We also started our own label to release this record . We hope to sign some great bands and give them all the knowledge we have learned through the years. And of course we will keep on Dreaming.
