On July 13, Rotimi A released his new mixtape LIVING, a collection of fresh tracks full of creativity and passion for what he does. After the toned-down, serious “Intro,” “Picasso Baby (Remix)” comes out firing with great flow and an addictive beat. “Michael Jordan (Feat. Steve Francis and G$STOPP)” is a great ‘speakers-up’ jam and should be a big hit with almost any hip-hop fan.

LIVING keeps getting better as it goes along. “Leaving Tomorrow (Feat. Grace Kinter)” expertly mixes tempos with Kinter delivering a chorus that fits perfectly with the track. “Loud Kids (Feat. Ryuichi Sakomoto)” is what I like to call a “kitchen sink” song. There’s a lot going on; interesting samples, different beats, various instrumentation, shifting styles, tempos, and verses, and more. In its seven plus minutes, it takes you to a few different places, and it really works. The more industrialized beginning with quick, free flowing verse transforming into a serene piano/orchestral soundscape is absolutely perfect. The final two minutes of the track…well, I’ll just leave it as a surprise for the first time you hear it. “Loud Kids” is without a doubt one of the best hip-hop songs I’ve heard this year.

Rotimi’s got something good goin on, and LIVING should serve as an eye-opening mixtape. If you haven’t checked out Rotimi A, now is the time. Doing what I do, I’m lucky enough to receive new music almost every day from all genres and from various outlets. It’s a lot to wade through at times, but it’s all worth it when you find a gem. LIVING is definitely one of those gems. Be sure to check out LIVING below and follow Rotimi A on Twitter @YoungPapi_Roc
