Venice Music Crawl – Preview

Brendon Goldwasser

This weekend, more specifically on Saturday the 22nd, is the official launch of the first ever Venice Music Crawl! The VMC started as a grassroots movement to build a music scene on the Westside of Los Angeles. To sum it up quite simply, it’s a collection of music events centered on Lincoln Blvd. in Venice Beach, CA, all happening on one day. This is more than just a festival or regular music event, this is the beginning of a strong, vibrant music scene on the Westside of Los Angeles.

Some of the venues involved in this years crawl are Deus Ex Machina, Floyd’s, Venice Love Shack, Witzend, and many more. The event is ran somewhat like a mini-SXSW, which is meant to give you a broad spectrum of genres in a variety of different capacities. There is a place for everyones various musical palate. If you’re into some folk/bluegrass, be sure to check out The Get Down Boys at the Witzend. If you fancy more DJ’s and Electronic/House music, be sure to stop by Wurstkuche or Floyd’s Lot. If you’re in the mood for some more rock-based and beach surf vibes, then you definitely want to stop by Deus Ex Machina and hear Hobart W Fink, as well as Thee Rain Cats.

There are some amazing events being hosted at these venues by groups like All Scene Eye, The Do Lab, FreeBikeValet Music Blog, and many more. The artists mentioned above are barely a taste of what will be happening. This might be one of the most eclectic and diverse lineups for a music event that I’ve seen in awhile. There is a plethora of more information on facebook for this event, so if helping build a music scene on the Westside, while also discovering awesome music, sounds like your kind of party, then I’ll see you there!
