Hunnit has been on the grind! The L.A. based rapper just released his debut mixtape entitled, Dream is Real, and he is not lying, the dream is real! GroundSounds had the chance to chop it up with Hunnit himself, check out the interview below!

Tell us about your upcoming mixtape The Dream is Real. What has it been like working on this project?

Its been a real ride chasing this dream but its a good struggle, I’ve been recording for a long time just trying to stack records until we felt ready to put things out, it was a fun process creating the dream is real its a lot of different characters that hang out in my circle which makes the creation better.

Do you have a favorite track on The Dream is Real?

Probably make a dolla, I can relate to it, I remember waking up with 15 cents wondering how I was goin to get a dolla for a black and mild lol

The video for “Push (Russel Simmons)” is fresh, what was it like working on it?

It was fun, I actually wrote that on the bus on my way to the studio, I felt like I had to keep pushing because I wasn’t going to be riding the bus forever, I gotta ball like uncle rush!

What are some of your biggest dreams and goals?

To make sure my kids are living comfortable and positioned to succeed in life, that’s my biggest dream and goal.

What inspires you most when you are creating your music?

I draw inspiration from anything that’s going on at that moment in my life, however I’m feeling and whatever is around me inspires me.

What do you think of today’s hip-hop scene? What would you say is the best and worst part about it?

Everybody sounds the same, I’ve always stayed in my own lane, if you hear me you want say oh he sounds like 2chains or he sound like YG, hip hop scene is full of copy cats, best thing about it is they giving me a chance to shine cause I’m nothing like them, worst part about it is I’m bout to have alot of haters

Who are some of your biggest influences?

Tupac, Oprah, Klassiq and Lyric (My kids)

Along the same lines, if you could share the stage with three musicians/bands/rappers, who would you choose?

Absoul, Wayne, Mystikal, me and mystikal would kill a stage together lol.

What is your favorite tattoo?

The prayers I have on my stomach. I was taught the prayers by my grandmother, so that’s the most important one.

What are your plans for the rest of the year and beyond?

Release the mixtape, line up some shows, work on my next music project and continue grinding and keep the dream alive cause the dream is now!!!
