Coming to you from all corners of the physical world and the world of music is Cloud 9. An indescribable sound and an ununbreakable passion for music are rising Cloud 9 to the heights of the music industry and beyond. With viral covers and original music like their latest release, Liv, this multitalented rising musical sensation will leave music fans walking on cloud 9.
So who is Cloud 9? Where are you all from?
TK (Vocals / London, England)
Sensei (Keys / Manila City, Philippines),
Footz (Drums / Washington, DC)
Taylor (Bass / Washington, DC)
Adam (Guitar / Tampa Bay, Florida)
Where did the name “Cloud 9” come from?
The number 9 is the highest single digit number and represents power, and being of the highest degree. Clouds are the mists of heaven and earth which represents the divine thought of God’s ability to manifest the unmanifested. At the glimpse of a cloud, it is as if we are looking into the pools of heaven, the sky, and seeing the universal possibilities of thought, movement and form, which is represented in our music.
How would you all define your music genre?
We would not define our genre of music. We take pride in being as eclectic as possible. As all of us are from different backgrounds, ethnically and musically, we strive daily to break down barriers and open new doors as to what can be achieved sonically.
Who would you say is your target audience?
We have a goal to bring a positive change to the lives of those in our generation, and inspire those of future generations to do much greater things than we will ever do.
We consider our music to be universal and unconfined to a specific area, however we are proud to represent D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, as the area in which we made our musical start. The DMV has done amazing things for Cloud 9, and Cloud 9 will always stay true to the DMV.
Do you all feel you get a lot of fan love in this area?
Our fans are amazing. This area shows us plenty of love on every side of this area’s cultural spectrum. Because the world of music is so saturated, people tend to assume that they know what to expect from any artist. So we’re thankful for the immense love from our fans in the DMV.
Musical inspirations/influences?
We are inspired by everything that surrounds us. The universe in its enormity is a reminder of the limitlessness of the human mind. We are influenced by so many amazing musicians that have lived and are still living. Jimi Hendrix, Coldplay, Snarky Puppy, Metallica, N.E.R.D, Aerosmith, Mali Music, Skrillex, Florence And The Machine, Lauryn Hill, The Chris Botti Orchestra, and Kanye West, are a few examples of what would be on an immense list of musicians that influence our musical creativity.
How do you all promote your music?
We are strongly supported by our fans and family who work everyday to get our name out to more and more consumers. The Center for Arts and Media, based in Laurel, MD, handles the majority of our media and marketing through online promotion and scheduling shows to keep our calendar full. We focus on street promotion and live shows, as our mission is to connect with fans and win over the hearts of new listeners everyday
Do you all have an album or EP recorded? Any new music coming out soon?
Last year, we released our debut project “Deja Vu: The Cover Experience” free for download on DatPiff
We are proud to be releasing our first original music video, for our new single “Liv”, directed by Yero Brown.
We are currently working on our album, presently named “Synesthesia” slated for the fourth quarter of 2013.
Describe the production process of the video for Liv.
Thankfully we had the opportunity to work with Yero Brown, a phenomenal director and videographer based in LA. We invited Martika Ragan, a model/entrepreneur and a good friend of ours, to play one of the lead roles in the video.
The great part about involving so many people in the video for “Liv” is that the promotion almost does itself. “Liv” is meant for anyone and everyone so we leave the promotion in the hands of our team at The Center For Arts and Media and our fans and supporters.
Future goals for Cloud9? (Where do you all see yourselves as a group in 5 years?)
While Cloud 9 has many, many goals, the main goal is to change the world, and inspire as many people as we can, through our music. In five years we see ourselves sitting in our bedrooms, admiring our Grammys, thinking of all of the lives we’ve touched, then getting up to improve upon all of our successes.
