Minnesota rapper P.O.S. isn’t your typical hip-hop artist. If you’re looking for songs about money, cars, fame, women, alcohol, weed, or similar facets of most modern hip-hop, you might want to stick to FM radio. With his fourth album, P.O.S. broaches more meaningful, relevant topics and does so with refreshing variety and creativity. If you’ve never heard of P.O.S. before, you’re missing out. Great beats, intelligent lyrics, and catchy hooks line one of hip-hop’s best albums of 2012. Stand-out tracks include the radio-ready “How We Land,” featuring Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, “They Can’t Come,” featuring Sims, “Fuck Your Stuff,” and the frenetic closer “Piano Hits,” featuring Isaac Gale. Proving rap can be both accessible and impactful, “We Don’t Even Live Here” is one of the best albums of 2012 in any genre.
